German Cockroaches
Light brown, about half an inch long, with two dark stripes behind the head. They live indoors in kitchens and bathrooms and breed faster than any other roach, which makes them the hardest to control.
Cockroaches spread bacteria, trigger allergies and asthma, and are one of the hardest pests to get rid of on your own. By the time you see one, there are usually many more hiding in walls, cabinets, and under appliances. Endeavor Pest Control treats cockroaches at the source for homes and businesses across Hillsborough Township and Somerset County. Call (732) 515-7900 for a free inspection.

The largest roach in New Jersey, reddish brown and up to an inch and a half long. They live in basements, drains, and sewers and can fly short distances.
Shiny, dark brown to black, and about an inch long. Often called water bugs, they prefer cool, damp places like basements, crawl spaces, and floor drains.
Brown roaches that live outdoors under bark and leaf litter. They wander inside from wooded yards in late spring and summer, but they do not infest homes the way other roaches do.
Cockroaches crawl through drains, trash, and sewers, then across your counters and food, spreading bacteria like salmonella and E. coli. Their droppings and shed skins are a known trigger for allergies and asthma, especially in children.
Store bought sprays and bug bombs kill the roaches you can see and scatter the rest deeper into walls. German cockroaches breed so fast that missing even a few means the problem comes right back. Lasting control means treating the cracks, voids, and harborage areas where they live and following up until activity stops.
Our process is thorough, safe, and built around protecting your home and family. Here is what to expect when you call Endeavor.
We identify the species, gauge how severe the infestation is, and find where roaches are hiding.
We recommend a plan based on the species, the size of the problem, and your type of property.
We apply gel baits, residual treatments, and crack and crevice applications to eliminate cockroaches at the source.
We return to confirm the roaches are gone and treat any remaining activity.
German cockroaches live indoors, so they are active all year in Somerset County. American and Oriental cockroaches are most active in summer, and they often move indoors during hot, dry spells or heavy rain, looking for water. Pennsylvania wood cockroaches show up most in May and June, when males fly toward porch lights and wander inside from wooded yards.

Answers to the questions Hillsborough homeowners and businesses ask us most.
Very rarely. Cockroaches can bite, but it almost never happens to people and only in severe infestations where food is scarce. The real health risk is the bacteria and allergens they spread across food, counters, and dishes.
Some can. American cockroaches can glide and fly short distances, especially in warm weather, and male Pennsylvania wood cockroaches fly toward lights. German cockroaches have wings but rarely fly. Oriental cockroaches cannot fly at all.
They come in on grocery bags, cardboard boxes, and used appliances, or crawl in through gaps around pipes, drains, and doors. In apartments and multi unit buildings, they also travel between units through shared walls and plumbing.
Food, water, and shelter. Crumbs, grease, dirty dishes, pet food, and open trash draw them in, and leaky pipes and damp basements give them the moisture they need. Clutter and cardboard give them places to hide.
They can spread bacteria like salmonella and E. coli by crawling through drains and trash, then across food and kitchen surfaces. Their droppings and shed skins also trigger allergies and asthma, especially in children.
Most homes see activity drop within a couple of weeks as roaches feed on the bait and carry it back to where they hide. Larger infestations and German cockroaches often need follow up visits. Your technician will give you a timeline after the inspection.
